WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A Washington political watchdog group has named four U.S. senators and 18 House members as the most corrupt members of Congress.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington posted the list on the www.beyonddelay.org Web site, calling it an "encyclopedic report on corruption in the 110th Congress," and listed its justifications for the designation of corrupt.
Two senators were also given a "dishonorable mention."
Last year's CREW list named 25 legislators, and the group said 16 of them returned to this year's report.
"With the third edition (of the report) ... it has become abundantly clear that many public officials believe that the rules don’t apply to them," said Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW. "Nevertheless, Congress persists in abdicating its constitutional responsibility to police itself, opting to ignore the ethical and legal transgressions of its members."
