ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A police detective testified in a Florida circuit court Wednesday that potentially deadly tools were found inside the car of former astronaut Lisa Nowak.
Testifying in front of Orange County Circuit Judge Marc Lubet, Orlando Police Detective William C. Becton alleged that a mallet, a BB gun and a knife were found in Nowak's car after her arrest on Feb. 5, Florida Today reported.
Becton alleged that those items, along with a discovered latex gloves and surgical tubing, represented "items that have been used and can be used to kill somebody."
Nowak is facing charges she tried to kidnap fellow astronaut U.S. Air Force Captain Colleen Shipman due to her romantic involvement with Navy Cmdr. Bill Oefelein.
During Wednesday's court session, Nowak’s attorney attempted to dispute Becton's testimony by citing discrepancies in his initial interrogation of the former NASA astronaut.
Nowak has also disputed Becton's stance that she allowed police to search her car following her arrest, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.
"I had to give him the keys, and I had to tell him where the car was because he was going to go there anyways," she said.
