WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The Federal Elections Commission said it has resolved seven campaign finance matters, including three involving a congressional race in Texas.
In the three matters the FEC reviewed regarding the Texans for Henry Cuellar Congressional Campaign, the commission said it found the organization violated Federal Election Campaign Act reporting provisions and agreed to pay a civil penalty of $28,500.
The FEC it investigated, but did not pursue, a complaint about the organization violating disclaimer provisions for automated phone calls.
In another matter, the FEC said the Empower Illinois Media Fund failed to register with the commission as a political committee and failed to file disclosure reports. The fund, which conducted a media campaign targeting Barack Obama when he ran for a U.S. Senate seat from Illinois in 2004, signed a conciliation agreement and agreed to pay a civil penalty of $3,000.
In the other matters, the FEC took no action. One involved a transfer of funds by the Mark Green for Congress campaign in 2005 in Wisconsin. The other two involved Santa Clarita, Calif., producing banners to thank a congressman for legislation he proposed that would limit mining in the area.
