ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Official Pakistani government sources said the country is planning to arrest former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother.
The sources said provincial law enforcement bodies have been asked to turn over any information on Sharif, who also serves as chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and his brother, former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Daily Times of Pakistan reported Friday.
“The Interior Ministry has directed all the provincial inspectors general of police, intelligence agencies and home departments to provide details of the cases against Nawaz and Shahbaz before (Monday),” the sources said.
The two brothers, who are expected to arrive Monday in Pakistan, may be implicated in the Margalla Towers case being heard by the country's Supreme Court, the sources said.
Ramzan Khokhar, who owned the collapsed towers, was given the land the towers were built on during Nawaz Sharif’s regime on the recommendation of Abbas Sharif.
“Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah may appear in the (Supreme Court) on Sept.10 in the Margalla Towers case with the relevant record,” said the sources.
The former prime minister was sentenced to life imprisonment after Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf staged his coup eight years ago. However, he was released into exile on the condition that he stay out of politics for at least 10 years.
