Foreign Minister Taro Aso has accepted an offer by Abe to become Liberal Democratic Party secretary-general, sources told Kyodo.

Sources said they believe Abe has laid the groundwork for the revamped Cabinet and may appoint veteran LDP lawmakers such as former foreign ministers Nobutaka Machimura and Masahiko Komura, and LDP policy chief Shoichi Nakagawa.

Issues to be tackled in Abe’s new Cabinet include recent pension recordkeeping problems, Kyodo said.
