MIAMI, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The first day of deliberations in the terrorism trial of Jose Padilla and two co-defendants ended in Miami Wednesday with no verdict being reach by the jury.
Authorities cordoned off the sixth floor of the U.S. District Court courthouse while the jurors consider the fate of the three men, WPLG-TV reported. Food was brought in for them during the day but they were being allowed to go home at night with the admonishment they are not to read or watch anything about the case in the media or on the Internet, the Miami station said.
Padilla, Adham Hassoun and Kifah Jayyousi have been on trial the past three months, charged with conspiring to murder, kidnap and maim people while providing material support to terrorists overseas.
Judge Marcia Cooke is expected to hold any verdict, when and if one comes, for at least an hour to allow time for attorneys and family members to gather before it is read, the station reported.
