Search underway for deputy's killers

MIAMI, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A manhunt is underway in Florida following the fatal shooting early Friday morning of a Broward County sheriff’s deputy in Pompano Beach.

Dozens of law enforcement officers from Broward and Palm Beach County are searching for two suspects in an early ‘90s model white four-door sedan with the license plate F16 8UJ, The Miami Herald reports.

It is the second time in four days that a Broward County officer has been shot in the line of duty.

Authorities say Deputy Chris Reyka, 51, was investigating two suspicious cars parked behind a 24-hour drug store when he was fatally shot while getting out of his vehicle.

An 18-year veteran of the force, Reyka has four children. His oldest son, who serves in the U.S. Marine Corps, is scheduled to go to Iraq this month.

“This has been one of the most difficult, saddest, most challenging weeks this agency has ever had,” said Sheriff Ken Jenne.
