INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- After appearing on "America's Most Wanted," Indiana prison escapee Kelvin Fuller reportedly contacted the media to get his side of the story out.
A man claiming to be Fuller contacted an Indianapolis TV station and a newspaper after the "Most Wanted" episode aired Saturday. Authorities believe that based on the information the man gave, it truly was Fuller, The Times of northwest Indiana reported.
Police Sgt. Detective Joe Gawor said the man claiming to be Fuller told the media outlets he escaped Westville Correctional Facility Aug. 1 because he wasn't receiving proper medical care, adding he is not armed or dangerous.
But police, who are trying to track the phone calls made by Fuller, believe a trail of crime leading away from the prison in Westville was the escaped convict's doing.
"He's dangerous," Gawor said. "He was in prison for a reason."
