BEIRUT, Lebanon, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The militant group Hezbollah signaled Saturday it was prepared to enter into a political settlement that would stabilize Lebanon.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech that a national unity government would help Lebanon get through the current political crisis, and that a divided nation was not possible.
Alalam Satellite Television reported Nasrallah also stated the Hezbollah was not interested in running the Lebanese government. Alalam said the Beirut government has accused Hezbollah of trying to gain veto power in the cabinet.
The United States has backed the government in the crisis that began last fall. Nasrallah accused Washington of maneuvering to monopolize power in Lebanon and "sew discord."
