Jurors questioned in teen drinking trial

CHICAGO, July 17 (UPI) -- Potential jurors were queried on teen drinking Tuesday for the trial of an Illinois couple who allowed underage drinking at their home before a fatal crash.

Jeffrey and Sara Hutsell, both 53, of Deerfield are accused in Lake County Circuit Court of allowing drinking at a party their 18-year-old son held, the Chicago Tribune said. Two teenagers at the party were killed in a car crash after they left.

In their defense, the couple said they did not see any teens drinking.

Lawyers for the couple, who have pleaded not guilty, questioned potential jurors about their own drinking and their views on alcohol and teens.

Some potential jurors said they do not feel parents can always control their children, but others said they do not condone teen drinking under any circumstances, the newspaper said.
