STONEWALL, Texas, July 15 (UPI) -- Lady Bird Johnson, who was U.S. first lady from 1963 through 1969, was buried Sunday afternoon in the family cemetery at her Stonewall, Texas, ranch.
An estimated 300 guests and family were on hand for the ceremony on the banks of the Pedernales River, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Patrick Lyndon Nugent, the only family member to speak at the service, said his grandmother -- who died Wednesday at 94 -- was a role model and a friend, the newspaper said.
"Despite the age difference between us, she was one of us. She got it," Nugent said.
An estimated 2,000 mourners gathered in Austin, Texas, Saturday for a memorial service for Lady Bird Johnson, whose husband, Lyndon Johnson, became president when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
