British Home Secretary to resign

LONDON, May 6 (UPI) -- British Home Secretary John Reid Sunday said he will not compete with Gordon Brown for control of Britain's Labor Party.

Reid said he plans to resign from the Cabinet this summer and will support Brown in his bid to replace Tony Blair as Prime Minister, the BBC reported.

Reid said his resignation would afford Brown the opportunity to bring new people to the Cabinet. Reid made his announcement on the BBC's "The Politics Show."
