BLACKSBURG, Va., April 18 (UPI) -- The two hours between shootings at Virginia Tech passed as police were interviewing the wrong person about the first one.
Citing police and court records, The New York Times reported Wednesday campus police were searching for the boyfriend of the female student who was killed along with a male resident adviser in a dorm room shooting Monday morning.
As they were questioning the boyfriend, the second round of shooting began in an academic building. Cho Seung-hui, 23, chained the building's doors shut and strolled through the building. He killed 30 people and injured 15 others before turning one of two handguns on himself.
While questions immediately arose about why the entire campus wasn't locked down after the first shootings, John Marshall, the Virginia secretary of public safety, told reporters university President Charles Steger and campus Police Chief Wendell Flinchum "made the right decisions based on the best information that they had available at the time," the report said.
