JERUSALEM, April 15 (UPI) -- The Vatican ambassador to the Holy Land decided over the weekend not to boycott the official Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony at Yad Vashem.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the Vatican called off the boycott of Sunday's events after Yad Vashem officials urged Vatican Ambassador Monsignor Antonio Franco to do some "soul-searching."
The planned boycott stemmed from a photo caption at the Holocaust Museum referring to the failure of Pope Pius XII to respond to the massacre of six million Jews.
The Vatican's intention to avoid the ceremony was seen by many around the world as insulting and insensitive to Holocaust victims and their families, the newspaper said.
Yad Vashem officials welcomed the Vatican's change of heart, the Post reported.
