Probation for mom accused in oven case

ORLANDO, Fla., April 12 (UPI) -- A Florida mother accused of putting her baby in an oven and turning it on was sentenced to two years probation under a plea bargain.

Sharlyn Singh, 29, must also complete a parenting class and undergo counseling under the terms of the plea deal, WKMG-TV reported. Singh pleaded guilty to one charge of child abuse but her lawyer said she denies putting her baby in the oven.

WKMG reported that the baby's uncle told police in January that he was helping his brother move out of Singh's apartment when he heard crying and found the baby in the oven.

Orange County Circuit Court Judge Lisa Munyon said she accepted the plea bargain reluctantly.

"I can tell you my perspective. If she really did this in the way it was described, she should go to prison," Munyon said in the WKMG report.
