No sign of missing BBC reporter in Gaza

GAZA CITY, Gaza, April 11 (UPI) -- Colleagues of a BBC reporter missing for one month in Gaza are demanding that the Palestinian government do more to bring him to safety.

Gunmen took Alan Johnston hostage March 12 in Gaza City while he was on his way home from work. Broadcasting unions from around the world joined Tuesday to say that journalists should never become victims of their own profession, the BBC reported.

The Palestinian government is "deeply ashamed" and is working to secure Johnston's release, said Palestinian Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti.

"His kidnapping is detrimental to our nation and our national cause," Barghouti said.

Johnston joined the BBC in 1991. His posting in Gaza was to end at the end of March.
