BUENOS AIRES, April 9 (UPI) -- A recent teacher's death at the hands of police sparked mass protests in Argentina's capital and throughout the country Monday.

Carlos Fuentealba was killed last week during teacher protests in the southwest province of Neuquen when she was hit in the head by a tear gas cannister fired by police, La Nacion reported online.

In Buenos Aires, traffic was halted for several hours Monday as thousands of protesters clogged the streets while calling for the resignation of the province's governor.
