San Francisco Democrats like Gore best

SAN FRANCISCO, April 3 (UPI) -- Although not a declared candidate for the 2008 U.S. presidential race, former Vice President Al Gore had the highest favorability rating in a California poll.

The Field Poll of 417 declared Democrats gave Gore an 85 percent favorable rating, followed by former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards with 83 percent and Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York third at 75 percent, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Gore was defeated by President George Bush in 2000, and has since taken up environmental causes.

When the poll came to voting however, Clinton led with 41 percent support, followed by Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois with 28 percent and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards at 13 percent. Various other candidates all ranked 4 percent or less.

The poll was taken March 20-31 and has an error margin of five percentage points.
