Gonzales: Kyle handled the details

BOSTON, March 30 (UPI) -- U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Friday he was not involved in the details of the dismissal of eight U.S. attorneys.

In a brief news conference during a visit to Boston, Gonzales attempted to deal with Thursday's congressional testimony by his former aide, Kyle Sampson, The New York Times said. Sampson, who appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Gonzales' account of his involvement had been inaccurate.

"I didn't focus on specific concerns about individuals," Gonzales said Friday. "My primary focus was insuring that the White House was kept advised of what we were doing and that Kyle was consulting with the appropriate (Department of Justice) senior officials who knew about the performance of the U.S. attorneys."

Gonzales was in Boston for a meeting with local law enforcement about Project Safe Childhood, a program to protect children from Internet predators.
