BUCHAREST, Romania, March 22 (UPI) -- A family of a Romanian woman missing for 29 years claimed a British documentary supports suspicions the woman was kidnapped to North Korea.
The British film featured U.S. Army deserter James Joseph Dresnok, who had lived in Pyongyang for 44 years after fleeing from South Korea, the Romanian daily Evenimentul Zilei reported.
The documentary shows Dresnok introducing his son Gabriel, who he said he had with his wife from Eastern Europe.
When watching the documentary family members of Doina Bumbea said the boy resembled the missing woman. Doina's brother, also named Gabriel, told the Romanian daily.
Suspicions that Doina, while living in Italy in 1978, was abducted by North Koreans surfaced in 2005 when Robert Jenkins wrote a book on his escape from South Korea to the North.
In his memoirs Jenkins said his wife told him about a Romanian woman, identified as Doina. Jenkins said Doina was ordered by North Korean authorities in Pyongyang to marry U.S. deserter J.J. Dresnok.
Doina died of cancer in 1997, aged 47, Jenkins said.
