Israel plans missile drill

JERUSALEM, March 19 (UPI) -- Israel will hold a missile strike drill on Tuesday, with simulated attacks in different areas across the country.

YNetNews reported security forces and rescue services will participate in Tuesday's drills, which will feature sirens sounding for 90 seconds in the south and center of Israel at 2 p.m.

Authorities decided not to sound the siren in the north or Gaza for fear of causing panic, YNetNews reported.

The purpose of the drill is to test lessons learned in the war in Lebanon and judge preparedness for various scenarios, YNetNews reported.

YNetNews said the scenarios will include a missile hitting a building in Netanya, another hitting a power station in Tel Aviv, and others landing in Tikva and Jaffa. A "mega-terror attack" will be simulated in Be'er Sheva, YNetNews said.
