Call for trial in Hariri murder

CAIRO, March 5 (UPI) -- The Arab League ended its Cairo meeting with a call for the trial of suspects in the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafiq Hariri.

In a statement released at the conclusion of their meeting, the ministers demanded Lebanese political parties reach consensus on the creation of an international tribunal as called for in two U.N. resolutions, Alalam TV reports.

The U.N. Security Council approved creation of the tribunal to try those suspected in the February 2005 bomb attack that killed Hariri and 22 others.

At a joint news conference, the chairman of the Cairo meeting and the head of the Arab League also stressed the need for implementing an agreement aimed at ending the fighting between Hamas and Fatah.

They called for the lifting of Western sanctions on the Palestinians and an end to Israel's construction of a security wall.
