Jet skids off runway amid ice, wind

CLEVELAND, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- A passenger jet at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport slid off a runway and plowed through a fence while landing in icy conditions.

Laura Brown, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said none of the four crewmembers or 70 passengers on board were injured during the incident Sunday, CNN reported Monday.

Shuttle America Flight 6448 from Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport crashed through the fence after skidding off the end of Runway 28 amid icy and windy conditions at the airport, Brown said.

"For reasons unknown, the plane did skid off the end of the runway, taking out a localizer antenna array used for that runway, going through a fence line," airport spokeswoman Pat Smith said.

"The nose of the aircraft is resting just barely on a roadway that is on our perimeter fence line," Smith said.
