CARSON CITY, Nev., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Federal law enforcement officials are looking into whether Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons failed to report gifts during his time in the U.S. Congress.
The officials said the FBI is looking into whether the Republican governor gave preferential treatment to a military contractor that gave him gifts that the then-congressman may have failed to report, The Washington Post reported Friday.
Gibbons said in a statement Thursday that his work with the contractor had merely been an attempt to "introduce" software products to other members of the U.S. House intelligence and Armed Services committees.
"I am confident that my actions were ethical," he said. "However, if there is ever found to be an inaccuracy or mistake, I will rectify it."
The gifts in question came from Warren Trepp, owner of eTreppid Technologies, which obtained contracts from several government agencies including the CIA, Air Force and the Special Operations Command, The New York Times reported.
