FOX LAKE, Ill., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Authorities say a Fox Lake, Ill., man used social networking site Facebook.com to attempt to lure a minor to his house for sex.
Michael Macalindong was arrested and accused of posing as a teenage girl on the Web site, which is known for its elaborate privacy controls, to lure a 15-year-old boy to his home, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.
Chris Kelly, Facebook's chief privacy officer, said the case marks the first and so far only accusation of an Internet predator using the site, which was only recently expanded from a college student network to include adults and minors, for illegal purposes.
"We certainly have tried to make things as safe as we can, and that continues to be a core part of our mission," Kelly said. "But nothing is ever going to be perfect ... Anytime you have a community of 16 million people, there's going to be crime.
"And people determined to commit evil will find ways to break through."
