Farrakhan released from hospital

CHICAGO, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Louis Farrakhan, longtime leader of the Nation of Islam, has been released from a Chicago hospital after undergoing abdominal surgery.

The organization said in its Final Call newspaper that Farrakhan was released on Sunday after being hospitalized Jan. 5 for the surgery, which was meant to correct problems stemming from a 2000 prostate cancer treatment, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Although Farrakhan handed over control of the Nation of Islam to an executive board while he faced health troubles, the U.S. Muslim minister plans to speak at a Feb. 25 Saviour's Day event at Detroit's Ford Field.
