Hillary heads to Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The Hawkeye State is readying the red carpet and the rubber chicken dinners for U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, with her eye on the 2008 Democratic caucus.

The presidential candidate hasn't set foot in Iowa since November 2003 when the New York senator spoke at the state Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Des Moines, ABC News reports.

Other presidential candidates like Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina have already made a number of appearances in the state which features the nation's first caucuses.

Clinton's whirlwind trip through the state Saturday and Sunday is scheduled to include stops in Cedar Rapids and Dubuque as well as Des Moines.

Campaign organizers plan to have her speak in intimate settings where she can talk to voters one on one.

"Our challenge, what we need to do now, is to get Hillary Clinton out to meet with the voters, to talk to them in small groups, and let her explain her positions" says Terry McAuliffe, national chairman for Clinton's campaign.
