CALGARY, Alberta, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins says the administration of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been good for relations between the two countries.
During his first year in office, Harper has managed to firm up the once-trepid relationship between the United States and Canada, the Canwest news service reported.
Wilkins said Harper's positive rapport with U.S. President George W. Bush, as well as his support for the international military campaign in Afghanistan, have improved relations between Canada and the United State.
The ambassador's comments were echoed by Institute for United States Policy Research Director Stephen Randall at the University of Calgary.
"I don't think there's much question that this is one instance where personality as well as politics have played a role," Randall said of Harper.
