Psychologist to adopt boy who killed mom

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A judge has freed a New York state teen who strangled his mother, releasing him to the psychologist who has been treating him and wants to adopt him.

Angel Rosa, 16, of Buffalo, killed Madeline Irene and helped an older pedophile, Edwin Gimenez, cut up the body.

In what Erie County Judge Sheila DiTullio called "the highly unusual circumstances of this case," psychologists for both the prosecution and defense agreed that Gimenez had turned Rosa into what his lawyer called "a tool" by repeated abuse, the Buffalo News reported.

DiTullio granted Rosa youthful offender status Monday and imposed a six-month prison term. Since the teenager has already been in custody for more than a year, he has already served his time.

Gimenez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year. He allegedly molested Rosa and his 12-year-old half-brother for more than a year before Irene was killed and dismembered.

Rosa thanked the judge and apologized for killing his mother.

The judge imposed 200 hours of community service and ordered Rosa to go through any psychological counseling his adoptive mother and her colleagues recommend.
