WASHINGTON, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush's State of the Union address leans heavily on domestic issues like healthcare and energy needs, a White House counselor said.
Bush will make the annual address Tuesday night and lay out his priorities for the next year and White House counselor Dan Bartlett told The New York Times that the highly divisive issue of the war in Iraq will be addressed but within context.
"There will be key signals to the American people that despite disagreements over the war, other work can be done," Bartlett said.
Monday, White House aides outlined Bush's plans for private healthcare insurance reform and the Times said he is also expected to discuss alternative fuels, global warming and immigration law reforms.
This will be the first time Bush has made the address to a Congress controlled by Democrats.
The rebuttal will be given by U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., whose son is serving in Iraq.
