SEOUL, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The top U.S. envoy working to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue said in South Korea multinational talks on the subject are expected to resume in February.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said the talks will probably resume next month but he denied reports in North Korean media that he and North Korean negotiator Kim Kye Kwan had reached "an agreement" in Berlin, Voice of America reported Friday.
"I'm sorry, I'm not really sure what he's referring to. We had some very useful discussions," he said of his meetings with Kim.
The two diplomats met in Berlin three times to discuss the resumption of stalled six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons programs. Hill said the meetings focused on restarting the talks and not on the nuclear program itself.
"The negotiations for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula take place in the six-party talks," he said.
