NEW YORK, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- The Colorado parents who allegedly kidnapped their daughter on the eve of her wedding told ABC's "Good Morning America" they were sorry for their actions.
In an exclusive interview with GMA Monday, Lemuel and Julia Redd said they kidnapped their daughter, Julianna Myers, 21, last August "because they thought their daughter was rushing into a marriage with a man she had only met a few weeks earlier."
"No, I wouldn't do it again," Lemuel Redd told host Diane Sawyer.
Lemuel, 59, and his wife, Julia, 57, have been charged with kidnapping, which could net them 15 years in prison. The Redds have pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been ordered to stand trial although their attorney, Rhome Zabriskie, is trying to work out a plea agreement with prosecutors.
"I say that avoiding a trial would probably be in everybody's best interest," Zabriskie told Sawyer.
Julianna and the groom, Perry Myers, were both students at Brigham Young University.
Julianna's parents said they thought Myers and his parents were improperly controlling their daughter's decisions and were "taking over."
