Bayh sends Democrats' radio wishes

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., sent holiday wishes and a plug for his party's agenda in the upcoming legislative year in the Democrats' Saturday radio address.

Bayh, much as U.S. President George Bush did in his weekly radio address, started off with remembrances and thanks to the U.S. military, saying, "This holiday season, they, and their families, are in our prayers."

He also welcomed Bush's recent pledge to "reach out to Democrats to achieve our common goals.

"My fellow Democrats should welcome this pledge and hold him to it," Bayh said, adding that there is a need to face the "great challenges" such as energy independence, expansion of healthcare coverage and making college educations more affordable -- all earlier stated as key issues for Democrats when they take over Congress next month.

"There is a lot of work before us, but I am confident that if we heal these divisions we can become a better America," Bayh said. "From energy independence to national security, 2007 promises to be a very busy year and by working together, there's no limit to what we can accomplish."
