Mount Rushmore worker dies

RAPID CITY, S.D., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- One of the few men still living who worked on construction of Mount Rushmore has died, the Rapid City Journal reported Thursday.

Glenn Bradford, who worked as a carpenter and a plasterer's assistant on the building of the famed mountain monument, died Monday at his Rapid City home. He was one of the last 10 surviving Mount Rushmore workers.

Bradford kept in touch with the other workers throughout his life, a family friend told the newspaper. He gave interviews, was recognized in Rushmore ceremonies, and once made an appearance on the television show "What's My Line."

After the building of the mountain memorial was completed in 1941, Bradford served in the United States military, owned a bar, and ran his own construction business.
