Elizabeth Jones was born Aug. 15, 1890, to freed slaves. After marrying Lewis Bolden around 1908, she had seven children. Ultimately Elizabeth Bolden had 40 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 150 great-great-grandchildren, 220 great-great-great-grandchildren and 75 great-great-great-great-grandchildren.

A stroke in 2004 left her unable to communicate but she enjoyed ice cream and cake at her 116th birthday party in August, the newspaper said. That milestone made Bolden the world's oldest person.

Family members said none of their other relatives had lived past 100 years.
