GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A Colorado judge said he would push a button to kill every pit bull, if he could, as he sentenced a dog owner to probation for owning a dog that mauled a woman.

Judge Jason Jovanovich said owners who believe pit bulls are not dangerous are "high as a kite," the Rocky Mountain News reported.

"If I had a big red button right here that would kill all the pit bulls, I wouldn't hesitate to press it," Jovanovich said at a hearing in Garfield County. "I think they should be as illegal as owning a lion and they belong in zoos."

Julie Dawn Sullivan of Craig pleaded no contest to owning a dangerous dog. The victim, Judy McGruder, was attacked as she returned to her car after going to Sullivan's house by mistake.

Sullivan was ordered to spend a year on probation, perform 48 hours of community service and pay McGruder's medical expenses. The dog was euthanized.
