Sen. Clinton meets with Dems on 2008

NEW YORK, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., has begun meeting formally with New York State Democrats to discuss her presidential plans.

Clinton started with a meeting last week with Rep. Charles Rangel, the senior member of the state's congressional delegation, The New York Times reported.

She has also met with State Democratic Chairman Herman D. Farrell Jr. and plans a meeting soon with Eliot Spitzer, the state attorney general and governor-elect.

Clinton has been considered a likely presidential candidate since she first won election to the Senate. Her most visible Democratic rival is Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, also an undeclared candidate.

The only declared candidate on the Democratic side is Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack, although Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana is expected to announce Sunday that he is forming an exploratory committee.
