NEW YORK, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Lawyers involved in the family feud over New York socialite Brooke Astor's care and the management of her estate want to collect their fees from her.
Harvey Corn, who represented Brooke Astor's son, Anthony Marshall, has billed the estate for $426,411.43, the New York Daily News reported. Corn's application says Ira Salzman, lawyer for Brooke Astor's grandson, Philip Marshall, is also putting in for payment.
The case was settled in October, with the removal of Anthony Marshall as his mother's guardian. A bank was given responsibility for financial management and Annette de la Renta, a longtime friend of the socialite, responsibility for her physical care.
Broke Astor, 104, daughter of a career Army officer, became a rich woman relatively late in life with her third marriage to Vincent Astor, heir to one of the country's best-known fortunes. After his death in 1959, she enjoyed decades as a philanthropist and society figure, remaining active as recently as her 100th birthday.
Philip Marshall charged that his father, 82, had neglected Brooke Astor's care and mismanaged her finances.
