Ceausescu's daughter dies at 56

BUCHAREST, Romania, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Zoe Ceausescu, daughter of former Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu died Tuesday in Bucharest aged 56, media reports said.

Zoe Ceausescu was the only daughter of Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, who were executed during anti-government revolution in December 1989. She died of lung cancer, Hotenews.ro online said.

Following a short military tribunal trial in 1989 and the Dec. 25 execution by a firing squad of her parents, Zoe lived a low-profile social life and married a Bucharest University professor in 1980.

Zoe Ceausescu had two brothers. Nicu Ceausescu died of a liver ailment in 1996, leaving Valentin Ceausescu as the only survivor of the dictator's family.

Nicu, Zoe and Valentin Ceausescu were arrested in December 1989 under abuse of power charges but were released soon after.
