IRNA, Xinhua seek cooperation

TEHRAN, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Iran's official Islamic Republic News Agency and China's Xinhua may cooperate for exchange of news and information.

The appeal was made during a meeting between Xinhua Deputy Editor in Chief Zhou Shuchun and IRNA Managing Director Jalal Fayyazi in Tehran, IRNA reported.

Zhou was in Iran for the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies executive board's annual meeting, which ended Monday.

Fayyazi was quoted as saying, "The Iranian and Chinese nations enjoy the oldest civilizations in human society. Tehran and Beijing currently have very good ties in the political, economic and social fields. The official news agencies of Iran and China should have good cooperation considering their common background and contacts."

Fayyazi said he hoped the two news agencies can sign agreements to officially expand their bilateral cooperation.

"If the two countries obtain their news stories from official sources, the news disseminated to their nations will be accurate," he said.
