NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- The Nation Park Service is reportedly preparing to solicit bids from concessionaires for new shops at New York Harbor and Liberty Island.
Bradford A. Hill, whose family has run a dockside concession business on Liberty Island for the past 75 years, is a little worried, the New York Times reports.
The Hills have reigned over Island sales since 1933 and pull in around $15 million a year offering tourists sandwiches, postcards, T-shirts and statuettes.
Among those expected to give the Hills a run for their money are food service giant Aramark, which runs concession stands on the nearby Ellis Island, Xanterra and Delaware North, the Times reported.
Kevin Kelly, president of Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts in Buffalo, predicts a positive outcome for the Hills, no matter what the result of the bidding war.
The Hills, he told the Times, "know the business better than anyone."
