Peruvian president acknowledges love child

LIMA, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Peruvian President Alan Garcia acknowledged he has a 1-year-old child with a woman other than his wife, El Comercio newspaper reported Tuesday.

Garcia made the announcement on national television Monday, telling Peruvians the child was conceived while he was separated from his wife, Pilar Nores.

The president said he wanted to clarify that the child, named Frederico, was not the result of an extra-marital affair.
