Musharraf notes progress on Kashmir talks

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf says he is satisfied with the Kashmir dialogue with India but said New Delhi wants to keep its domination of the region.

The two countries agreed to discuss Kashmir, which both claim, after Musharraf met with India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the recent summit of non-aligned nations in Cuba.

"The talks between India and Pakistan on Kashmir issue are under way, which is a welcoming development. The two countries exhibited in this regard a positive attitude in the Havana Declaration. Now the process should move forward," Musharraf said in a television interview, reports the Press Trust of India.

"I respect Indian prime minister but it is regrettable that India wants to keep its domination in the region and wants Pakistan to be weaker force. India should come out of its phobia of being a greater nation and should talk to us at an equal level."

Referring to al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and Taliban's Mullah Omar, Musharraf said the search for them is not an easy task because they are hiding in the mountains and enjoy the sympathy of local population, the report said.
