Reid to amend ethics reports

WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said he will correct ethics reports made to Congress in the past four years to disclose details of a real estate deal.

The Nevada Democrat said the alterations will more fully explain the 2004 deal, which netted Reid $1.1 million in 2004, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Jim Manley, a spokesman for Reid, said the senator had previously reported ownership of the land on congressional financial disclosure forms and the amended ethics statements would only detail the transfer of ownership to a limited liability corporation, Patrick Lane LLC, in 2001.

"The fact is that this case is simple," Manley said. "He bought the land. He sold the land and he fully reported that he owned it. Now he's going to go above and beyond all the requirements to ensure the facts are clear for all to see."

Reid also said he would personally repay $3,300 to his political campaign after money from the fund was given to the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, where Reid resides, to contribute to the Christmas bonuses for support staff.
