FBI searches aimed at Weldon's daughter

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- FBI agents searched houses and offices Monday in Florida and Pennsylvania belonging to U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon's daughter and her business partner.

Weldon, a Pennsylvania Republican and vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is reportedly under investigation for allegedly using his influence to steer business to a company owned by his daughter, Karen, and Charles Sexton Jr., a longtime friend of the congressman.

The FBI confirmed that searches were carried out at four locations in the Philadelphia area and two near Jacksonville, The New York Times reported. But an FBI spokeswoman would not say why the premises were searched. Affidavits submitted to obtain search warrants have been sealed.

The search targets included the office in Media, Pa., of Solutions North America/Solutions Worldwide, the company owned by Karen Weldon and Sexton, and both their homes. The congressman's home and office were not searched.

Weldon has represented Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District since 1985. But he faces a significant challenge next month from retired Democrat Joe Sestak, a retired Navy admiral.
