Tapes show beheading of eight Afghans

KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The Taliban's military commander was filmed beheading eight Afghan men accused of spying for British and American troops in Afghanistan.

In a series of video clips released by Mullah Dadullah to Afghan TV, the men were seen confessing their alleged crimes and then being laid out in the dust with their arms and legs bound, the Sunday Times of London reported.

The person doing the beheading does not show his face, but a Taliban statement with the video claims Dadullah is executing the "Christians and crusaders," the Times said.

The video surfaced as Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf received backing from Washington and London for peace talks with pro-Taliban militants along the border of his country with Afghanistan, the Times said.

Musharraf struck an agreement with North Waziristan rebels last month under which government soldiers withdrew from the area and Taliban prisoners were released, the Times said. Also, militants agreed to cease attacking Pakistani troops and engaging in cross-border assaults on coalition forces in Afghanistan, the BBC said.
