NICOSIA, Cyprus, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- The head of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has resigned, dissolving the Turkish Cypriot coalition government.

Premier Ferdi Sabit Soyer's resignation left questions and speculation in its wake, the New Anatolian newspaper reported.

"Turkish media speculated that the dissolution would be aimed at forming a new Turkish Cypriot government that could work in harmony with the government in Ankara," the newspaper said.

Turkey is the only U.N. member that recognizes the Turkish Republic.
