Two killed in cafe bomb blast in Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A bomb exploded at a busy outdoor cafe in southeastern Turkey Monday, killing two people and injuring at least seven others, local media reported.

Police said the bomb was left in a garbage bin near a popular tea garden in the town of Van, near the border with Iran.

One of the two killed was a police officer, the state-run Anatolian news agency said.

It was the fifth bombing in a week in Turkey, and while no group immediately claimed responsibility for Monday's attack, a Kurdish separatist group, the Kurdistan Liberation Hawks, said it planted last week's bombs, which targeted holiday resorts and Istanbul and killed three people, EuroNews.com reported.

On the group's Web site, it vowed to turn "Turkey into hell," and advised tourists to stay away, the BBC reported.
