DENISON, Texas, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Five people were killed and another was critically injured in a high speed boat collision on Lake Texoma along the Texas-Oklahoma border.
One boat hit the other broadside during the High Roller Poker Run II Saturday afternoon, the Sherman Denison (Texas) Herald Democrat reported Sunday.
One man and one woman survived the crash, but the woman died while being transported to a hospital, KTEN-TV, Ada, Okla., reported. The man was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he was in critical condition.
Officials said two of dead were from Tennessee while the rest were believed to have been Texans.
Highport Marina Vice President Tim Hayes said the race involved high speed boats competing for playing cards at five stops on the lake. The best poker hand at the end wins.
Hayes said it was the first fatal accident in the race's 20 year history on Lake Texoma.
Hayes said "world class" drivers with many years of experience were behind the wheels of the two boats.
