Family of slain hostage to sue Syria

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The family of a Georgia man who was kidnapped and killed by Iraqi insurgents planned to file a lawsuit Friday seeking millions of dollars from Syria.

John Salter, one of three lawyers representing Jack Hensley's wife and daughter, said they believe the Syrian government assisted the group behind the abduction. Abu Musa al-Zarqawi, the head of al-Qaida in Iraq, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike, was allegedly responsible for beheading Jack Hensley of Marietta and Eugene Armstrong of Hillsdale, Mich., who worked for the same Defense Department contractor.

Videotape showing the beheadings was posted on the Internet.

The family plans to try to seize Syrian assets for compensation.

"This family is doing their best to do what they can to see that this does not happen to someone else," Salter said. "This is a small attempt, but it's something they can do, and something we as lawyers feel is the right thing to do."
